Car Stereo Help.

Lifer
okay, I just decided that I will be adding a new stereo in my car. I don't want to spend much, I just want about 4 nice speakers, maybe a sub, and I totally want a cd player, (considering those that are held in the trunk). I don't want to spend much on this, maybe say around......500 or so, or a little bit more. max maybe 600. So can you give me some suggestions? anything will help, links, articles, personal experience, anything. Thanks in advanced
To get a little organized, can i get info on the following

1. speakers
2. cd players
3. regular face off
4. amps, subs

<< What is the car this will go in>? >>

ummmm, its a ford contour, i dont see the relevance in that, but since you asked.....

It is relevant because the speaker sizes are pre-decided unless you want to perform surgery on your car.

Another way to look at it is what speakers do you have? I am guessing 6.5" in the back and 5.25" in the front. Is this correct?

umm, i guess i can look later on today, i honestly dont know. but I see what you mean.......any other help?

$600 will get you a decent head unit, wiring kit, speakers, and amp to drive them installed but

ixnay on the sub. A decent sounding sounding sub with an amp to drive it probably cost $300-400 by itself.

just get the base system installed, and save up more for a decent sub and amp to drive it.

You could go the mexi route and get a whole rig for $600 but its going to be ROCKWOOD and pyramid junk and will sound like ass.

check this It's a good starting point.

I am now guessing you just have 6x8" speakers in the back. It will be tough to significantly upgrade without adding front kick panel speakers. Kick around on the crutchfield catalog site to see what fits in your car. Good value brands to look for are Kenwood, Pioneer, Polk, JBL.

my friends coutour SVT edition had a extra amp hidden but not hooked up. He put the aiwa mp3 player in his car, and the guys who did the install hooked up the amp. Evidently it wasnt hooked when the car came from the factory.

Go to Ed and Al's Autosound and see what they have got.. and then go to "The Good Guys" store and check what they have got.

Get a head with 4 way power, like the Kenwood's KCD-MP8017. Plays CDs and MP3s. 😀
Get 2 pairs of co-axails from a well known company like JL, MB Quart, Boston, etc..
Run the speakers off the amp in the head unit.
Buy a self powered sub like a bazooka.

I'd personally recomend getting Pioneer for your setup, its reasonalby priced and quality is good.

Pioneer 6000 at best buy is $189
Speakers depend on the size but pioneer is good all four for about $100-150
Amp I'd definately get a Hifonics Zeus 400 which can be found on E*ay for about $140
Ported Enclosure for a 12" $40
Subwoofer Audiobahn 1200 $85 @ Onsale Audiobahns
Id go 8 gauge power wire from battery to amp 20" $20 and find 15" preouts $15 and a remote wire for $4

You will have great quality and hifonics amp wont drain your battery.. that is similar to my setup but i have a Zeus 600 and 2 12" Cerwin Vega 124's hittin 147.8 DB's...

If you're gonna get mp3 players, get the Kenwood one instead.
It's onlya few bucks more, plus it's much better.
My teach just got one installed, sounded really good playing a 128kbit mp3
As for speakers, pick whichever you think sound best. Usually more expensive ones sound better 😉
