I hope I'm posting this in the right place... This is in response to the car stereo equipment deal request in the I wanna thread...

I also hope I don't get in trouble for this, b/c I'm associated with them (they sponsor my car club, but I don't make any money off of anyone I send there), but if you check out www.autotoys.com, they generally have a lot of good deals on car stereo/video equipment along with other performance stuff...

Another place you can look into is sbhcorp.com... I've never dealt with them, but have seen some decent prices.

Which product there is the hot deal? This is where you post it. Not 'checkout xxx.com for hot deals'. So if there is a stereo at this place for like $50 off and there is a rebate also on it for another $20 for example it would be a hot deal. Just a FYI,

Sorry, they really don't have rebates or anything, but low prices on almost all of their headunits and amps and such... There really is no specific product I can point out. Sorry bout that... Am I gonna get in trouble for this?

A few people here who are better than the rest of us will surely read you the riot act, they can be ignored. ;)

Just learn as you go, you'll be fine.

I've ordered from sbhcorp before, but not autotoys. Both have good prices, and although I've heard bad things about SBH. I had no trouble whatsoever. They blew everybodys price away. So I went for it.

There is one thing to remember however. There are almost no online sites that are authorized dealers. There are some, like Crutchfield for instance, but most are not.

So what you say? Well unlike computer stuff. Car audio companies will not honor any warrantys at all. SBH even lied, and said they would. I knew they wouldn't but asked just to see what they'd say. :)

Now the question. Does it really matter? Personally, considering that I was putting together a big setup, and spending tons of money. I went with the odds. I figured that I saved enough cash shopping online. That even if two, or threee things broke. I could still break even after replacing them with my own money. However if I weren't saving that much. I might have paid more for the warranty.

Check out these cheap arse prices though

Just wanted to let everyone know, and make their own decision. :)

amb#cog - You're right, alot of places aren't authorized dealers, but I see the owner of Autotoys fairly often, and am in contact with him even more than that. I don't know if he has the info posted on his site, but he is authorized from the likes of Pioneer, Sony, Rockford, Kenwood, APC, etc, so if warranty is an issue (which, especially when buying products like TVs, it should be), don't hesitate to order from him. To be on the safe side, or check for yourself, feel free to email them and check up.

Glad to see I could be of some assistance to everyone. Now I don't feel so bad. :)

but are they authorized to sell on the web? probably since they are a regular dealer who also has a website, but then again I would check.

If it is who I am thinking of, they are good guys.

Yeah those are some awesome prices, lower than I've seen anywhere else. I used to shop here but this place (SBH) is even cheaper. Hard to believe but it's true, great find crvtec.

I did business (sort-of) with autotoys.com once.

I placed an order for a Sony car amp. They charged my credit card the next business day.

A week later I inquired as to the status of my order. They told me, via e-mail, that they "hope" to ship it within 3 to 5 business days.

I inquired as to the reason for the delay. Their response was to cancel the order.

I inquired as to why they cancelled the order. Their response was that they cancelled the order.

I seriously doubt that I will do business with them again. Something strikes me as being shady with them.

I've bought from AutoToys a couple of times. I've never had anything but positive experiences, and their prices are usually very low, if not the lowest.

I have had very bad experiences with www.sqaudio.com, and the other site the same guy runs, www.soundhabit.com. Very, very sketchy, con-artist type stuff, stay away!

There's a great forum devoted just to car audio, which features an online shopping section. It's Elite Car Audio. There are plenty of other car uadio forums around, but this is the only one with a shopping section.

pjs - I'm sorry to hear about what happened. How long ago was this? He recently went through some staffing problems, and the employees were fired because of attitudes they have given customers.

I can make the following offer to anyone here: If you order from Autotoys, and are having ANY problems, feel free to notify me. I will get in contact with the owner ASAP and try to help get the issue resolved. I know this may not mean much to alot of you, seeing as how I'm not known here, but if there is any way I can help, please let me know. I can be reached at rich@hitekautos.com.

Those are pretty good prices but I'd recommend going to a small car audio shop by your house. They have good prices as well and if you're a good bargainer (which I'm sure most of you are obviously) you can get them to go VERY low. For example, today I got 4 pioneer speakers (4" front, 6 1/2" rear), installation of the speakers, and installation of my pre-owned head unit and cd changer for $150 out the door. Initially he wanted $225 but once you start heading for the door, i'll always try to reel you back in. So I'd definitely take my chances at your local car audio star beforehand, and if that fails you can always get them online.
