Car starter for Manual Trans

Anybody have any recommendations? Winter here's going to be sucky. I never park my car in gear, but most shops last time I checked wouldn't touch a manual.

You should probably clarify that you're looking for a remote starter. At first I thought you wanted a first car that was a manual.

Hmmm, check around again... most places here do manual remote starters no problem. They are more expensive and have more limitations, but they work.

Depending on your state, it may be illegal for a shop to install a remote start on a manual transmission.

Personally, I wouldn't bother. Your car will get warmer faster if you just hop in and start driving. Plus you'll waste less gas and won't spend money on a remote starter.

Maybe spend the money on a nice jacket instead? 😉

Thats a wash...If you drive the car while it's cold the mixture is richer and the engine is burning alot of fuel since you aren't just idling. Not to mention once iis warm it is more efficent and less wear and tear than when driving when cold, like oil starvation.

Heh - I know somebody that had one on his manual car. He was cleaning the car and accidentally knocked it into gear. I guess his starter didn't have the proper safety lockouts and he didn't realize it was in gear. So a while later he remote started it and it took off - over a ledge at his apartment complex and head first into the parking lot below. The car was totaled.

It does happen, you really have to be careful. When I was working for a Car Audio store, an installer's remote engaged in his pocket and his car nearly went out into traffic before he caught it. If he hadn't seen it, it could have caused a very very bad accident.

Maybe you could get an electric heater for your engine? They used to be extremely popular in the more northern bits of the U.S.
