Car speakers

I have a 91 corolla which I'm going to be using this summer for work. The car runs fine, and has a cd player in it. Anyway, I want to replace the 4 speakers in it.

They are all stock speakers, and the two front ones are pretty blown from music being played way too loud.

How should I figure out which speakers to get ? / Can I just get any that are the same size ? Is this something a competent person can install, or should I get a professional to do it ?

Also, can I just take out the two front speakers until I replace them, so there isn't a terrible rattling when listening to music ?

Thanks - Rob

Yes, you can pull the front speakers, however make sure that you tape the connections, otherwise you will short the radio.

You want to replace your speakers with the same size, and your local stereo installer will know what size you will need.

Question, how nice is the cd player. Is it stock or aftermarket?

Aftermarket - it's not very good - I think Kenwood.

If I pull the front speakers, I could just take one in and say "hey I need new ones" and they can point me to the proper size eh ?

Just tell them what year and model car you have, you do not need to bring in the old spreakers.

If you have an average cd player, no need to go all out on speakers either. Your cd player probably is not pushing much power at all.

Note, most stock speakers connect with a plastic plug, which will not connect to your new speakers. You may be able to buy an adapter to connect to your new speakers (you will need to either use wire connectors or solder), or you may just want to cut the connector off, and connect standard ends to the existing speaker wire. Of course, if these are not the stock speakers you will not have this issue

go to crutchfield.com and find the link for car audio...

enter your info in and they will tell you what fits your car...

based on what you find, you can usually find a better price elsewhere though...

link for the lazy

However, if you buy from them, they will give you the adapaters so you don't have to cut the stock wires and will also give you detailed step by step instructions for your exact car model on how to replace them for free....

Well apparently there arn't any speakers there that will fit my car.

Thanks guys, I'll see what futureshop has to say.
