First OT Post...

Alright, well, I got a 1993 Ford Explorer that I am hoping to use as a commuter vehicle for school and as a drive about 120 miles a day, I wanted to upgrade the factory speakers and also add XM Satellite Radio. I have never installed anything in my car before, so I have no idea as to what I am doing! When I got the car it had the Factory Deck replaced with a Kenwood 40W x 4 CD Player/Receiver. So I went to Crutchfield.com, they said I needed 6"x8" speakers for the front and rear, so I picked out the following items:

1. Delphi SKY-FI XM Satellite Radio Receiver: 99.99
2. Delphi Sky-FI Vehicle Kit: 69.99
3. Delphi Sky-FI FM Modulator: 49.99
4. Pro.Fit Universal Satellite Radio Mount: 24.99
5. Kenwood KFC-6879ie 6"x8" 2-Way Speaker Set: 69.99 (Front)
6. Kenwood KFC-6879ie 6"x8" 2-Way Speaker Set: 69.99 (Back)

Crutchfield includes Wiring Harnesses for the speakers free of charge and they also include a MasterSheet customized to my vehicle and a car audio installation guide, which I am hoping will be detailed enough to get me through the install. Is there anything I should know before going into this? Anything else I need? Are there any better components I should be looking for? I am looking to keep the whole thing under $400.00 bucks. Any help/suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

Everything you need to know from a theoretical standpoint:

Basic Car Audio Electronics

From a practical standpoint, google around and you'll likely find someone who's done (and chronicled) some serious installs on a similar car. I just finished installing an amp & 2 speakers using BCAE website and lots of googling; I began as a complete audio nitwit. I guess my main advice would be to really do your research thoroughly and plan carefully - it'll pay off when everything snaps into place at the end. Good luck!

If your kenwood deck has cd-changer controls you don't need the modulator. Kenwood sells a little dongle that plugs into the changer port and give you a pair or RCA inputs:)

How do I know if I have this, I have zero information on this installed deck as I did not do it myself.

I'll get that information for you in the morning as I don't want to go for a walk in the snow to the parking deck. Thanks for your help!
