Car shopping: 2006/2007 Ford Fusion

hey all,

I'm looking to buy a car for my everyday commuter. I'm thinking about a 2006/2007 Ford Fusion w/ 40k or so miles on it. They go for around $8k.

The reason this car is particularly appealing is because (1) it's cheap (2) 30+ mpg highway and (3) I drive about 20k+ miles a year so it's going to get beat up pretty good so I'm not gonna cry about it based on the price tag.

thought?

EDIT:

Guys, the same dealer is also offering a 2007 Accord LX SE Sedan (i4) 50k miles for $10500.

What do you guys think? I would be paying more for an older car with more miles on it but I have a feeling that I would have an easier time selling when I move on to the next car.

If you can find one for that price then it seems like a good deal if it's in good condition...

I never saw a Ford Fusion for below 10k though when I was looking... At least for anywhere near those miles and decent condition.

A lot of people on this forum have them and a few of my relatives who have camrys traded them in for Fusions this past week so I guess that says something about their quality

i just looked again and they are more like 9k for private users.

There is a local dealership and the guy who owns it has a 2008 V6 SEL w/ 35k miles for $10950 but he said he would do it for $10k flat for me since 2 of my family members bought cars from him in the past 6 months.

I would jump on that deal, for sure.

I have bought two fusions. Back in March I bought an 07 S with I4/auto, no options, and 50k miles for 10k. Now you're getting offered a V6 SEL 08 with 40k... definitely go for it. A comparable 2008 accord EX with 40k would be what, 15k?

I crashed my 07 so now I have an 06 SEL i4/5sp with 70k I got for 11k (believe me, best deal I could get in my area on short notice with a totaled car)

I haven't owned a V6, but if you have any questions, feel free to ask

Thug, that's a pretty good deal imo. Especially considering it's a 2008 V6 SEL with only 35k. If I were in the market for a used car, I would definitely be considering that deal. If it's in good shape it probably won't stay on the lot for very long.

I'd also take a look at 07-08 Saturn Aura's. Might cost a little more ($1-2k?), but definitely more car. Resale value will be poorer in the long run due to Saturn's closing but if you're planning on running it into the ground, I think it would provide much better value in the long run.

4 cylinder you could probably do better but with a V6 yeah that is a great price, go buy it today.

the fusion is getting a pretty good rep, i don't think it'd be that difficult to sell.

This!!!

Plus I don’t think the Accord LX SE Sedan is any better of a car. It will also be a year older with more miles on it. So you may actually get less for it than the newer, lower mileage Fusion...assuming you get the 2008 V6 SEL w/ 35k miles.

07 Accord SE is really a gen 7.5
With 50 k miles on it, it should still feel like new. Check for accidents, but if the title is clean, go for the Accord.
Also, the SE has aluminum wheels.
I have 06 Accord SE and I am very happy with the car. The 07 will be even better.
Nothing wrong with the Fusion, but the 7.5 gen Accord is a slightly better car with more engine power than the i4 Fusion.

I don't think it'll maintain its value as well. Not saying it would be hard to sell, but i think the accord will yield a higher resell value.

Resale value under 10k is a non issue. You don't stand to gain or lose anything significant really.

Both cars are gonna drop similar enough amounts over ~4 years or so... but the fusion will have an advantage in miles and a model year, along with the V6 and probably better options will probably sell for a similar amount, while being cheaper going into it and being a more satisfying car (V6, options)

5spd is not an option for all the traffic I sit in ;)

Good, because iFX is wrong. The 5sp in 06-09 fusions is crap. It's 5th gear is geared to run at 3400RPM at 80 and 3000 at 70... when I know from owning an auto before my current 5sp that 2800rpm is plenty to keep 80mph up hills without downshifting. It really needs a 6th gear (which they added on '10 models), but not having one KILLS the highway mileage. If the EPA numbers are to be believed that the V6 is only a 2-3MPG drop from the I4, then you'd get better mpg with a V6 and auto than i4/5sp on the highway

But Fusions are still great, just not manuals ;)
