Ive noticed something with my car. It seems to shake between 50-52mph. After that it doesnt do it and before that it doesnt do it. After you pass 52 it's smooth all the way up. The front tires are really bald, and I'm thinking that's what's causing it, so I bought new front tires and I'm waiting to get them. I was just wondering if anyone could tell me if the tires should fix it?
thanks,
-doug

They might. You may also have other problems causing it. Let us know if the tires take care of the problem.

They are probably out of balance and not aligned well.. either way it will all be fixed when you get the new tires..

Yep, have your tires balanced and make sure the tire pressure is on spec.

sounds like a tire balancing problem

sounds like you need new ones anyway, when they put them on they will rebalance them.

First, you should always replace all four tires at the same time, having different age tires on a car can really throw off the car's balance, to say nothing of how bad it can get with tires from separate brands or lines. It sounds as though it is a tire balance or wheel balance issue, so if the tires don't fix it, have the wheels balanced. If neither the tires or the balancing helps (which is not entirely unlikely), you should have the alignment adjusted as wearing the front tires bald can definitely cause some alignment problems.

What year, make, and model is the vehicle? Does it have an automatic transmission?

no one think it might be the transmission? if its an automatic it may be changing from 3rd to 4th gear around that mph.

I really don't think it's the transmission.. just get the new tires and I'm sure you'll be good after that.. make sure you get an alignment as well because I'm sure it's way off by now..

Hmmm.. looks at my post above. ;)

I'm actually thinking more along the lines of a torque converter clutch shudder.

I will be getting identical tires on the back when I get paid 2 weeks from now, but I have a credit card bill coming so I couldnt afford to buy all 4 at once. It is an automatic, but I dont think it's the transmission, because it shakes at 50 no matter what gear I'm in(that is to say 3rd, 2nd, or 1st). The tires are beat to hell and they are probably outta balance. My thought was there might be a flat spot on the tire, because my friends and I were doing some 60-0 tests on these tires and I dont have ABS:).
thanks,

Check your steering alignment. My old car used to shake above 85, but after I had the steering alignment checked, it pulled up to 125 rock solid :D
