Car security system

Just bought a 2006 4Runner. It has the engine immobilizer but no security system. The dealer's security system was a $300 option but apparently it didn't do much more than the immobilizer (didn't detect bumps, glass breakage, etc). So I'm considering having a 3rd party system installed. What features should I look for and what features are useless fluff?

I'd say you already have the immobilizer so starter kills and such aren't of much use. Just look for a dual-stage shock sensor (pretty standard) and a glass-break sensor. Also look for a backup battery and a second siren inside the car. Of course, install is 99% the challenge.

do the siren systems actually work? cause most people where I live just kinda ignore it when it does go off.

As a coworker found out, they're great for when you can hear your own siren. Like if you're parked in your own driveway😉

I believe a similar topic was once created and the concensus was that the installation is more important than the alarm. Obviously, if it's not installed right, it's not going to do much, right? 😉

Pretty much any alarm from Clifford or Viper should have your mind at ease.
