Car Security Opinions

Well, on Monday night some bastards broke into my housemate's Civic which was parked in our driveway. 20 feet from my bedroom. They just jimmied the window, popped the lock, and slid his headunit out. His car was parked right next to my 2004 Accord Coupe.

My car has the stock alarm, which goes off if you pull the lock/open the door when it's armed. In light of my housemate getting jacked, we're getting a motion detecting floodlight for the front of the house.. Also I'm trying to beef up my auto security. However, I'm having trouble deciding what's worthwhile.

1. I could upgrade to an aftermarket alarm, but my current alarm is basically doing its job and a new alarm is expensive. But, my alarm doesn't have shock sensors or anything.

2. I could put a brighter alarm LED somewhere as a visual deterrent.

3. I could get my windows tinted for obscurity.

Any opinions on effective car security? It's not always possible for me to park in a garage.

Tinted windows just mean you have something to hide. If a thief wants to get into your car, they will. Those alarms are easier to deactivate anyways.

Just go with the flood light. You can buy them with built in alarms now also. May want to consider that.

The flood light idea is best and simple. Its a great deterent when you're breaking into cars illuminated by a bright light.

Sweet jesus, a high quality aftermarket alarm is like $600 installed. My comprehensive insurance deductible is only $50.

I think I'm just going to get this
