Thinking of leasing a car, or just concerned about how well your new car will retain value?

If so, look here for the class leaders in residual values.

The germans wiped the floors in the sedan/car market, while the Japanese mopped up everything else in all SUV and Pickup truck categories.

Fullsize Truck: Toyota Tundra
i'm pretty sure a dodge dakota is as big as this thing, based on glancing over one parked next to the other, and yet the toy is a full size?

Dakota is sort of oddball. It's bigger than a compact truck, but smaller than a full size. A Tundra runs a bit smaller than a full size GM or F-150 so it wouldn't surprise me if they were roughly similar in size depending upon configuration.

They are close, they're within 2-3" length wise (the Tundra is longer), the Tundra is 4" wider and 5" taller. Obviously length will vary based on model (and holy s*** there are a lot of them), but they're definitely similarly sized vehicles.

Muadib then gets ill, and vomits all over aphexII, and his Passat, causing the value of said vehicle to be zero.:D

 How can the Mini Cooper be #1 in Compact cars in the US if it's just being sold this year? You'd think that this would take into consideration actual post-lease valuations which is obviously impossible with the Mini Cooper. That leads me to think that the whole thing is bullsh|t.

"Originally published in 1964, the ALG residual guidebook remains the industry standard for the residual value forecasting of vehicles."

I think they just make an educated guess, so that the dealer has something to base lease payments on.

ALL residual rates are guesses. Unless you can read the future in a crystal ball, you don't know what the value of a car is going to be.

All that you have to go by is current demand, past performance, reputation of manufacturer, and how much in demand you think that used vehicle will be in the future. It's a gamble.

These are vehicles that leasing agencies are taking a gamble on that the market will demand that they maintain their value.

The Mini currently has up to 6 MONTH waiting lists for it certain places. It's also being built by BMW, which is noted on the list for it's excellent resale. It's also assisted by the fact that it has a relatively low entry price to begin with. Starting at $16,000 or so, it won't be as suceptable to depriciation as say, a $50,000 luxury sedan. There is less markup up front, so there will be less deprication on the back end.
