Car repairs VS. Home Repairs

When i get my car repaired, i get a statement of parts, and a statement of labor. It is clear what it basically would have cost for me to "do it myself"

When i get home repairs done (new HVAC, new windows), i get a "total" estimate. That's it.

Is it because they don't want to admit how much their labor costs? Is it because i can't buy the same product at the same price?

Just thinking....
