Anybody have an estimate on how much it should cost to repair the ignition switch or the ignition circuit?

I want to make sure I don't get ripped off. Thanks.

I replaced the ignition switch (note - the switch embedded in the column, not the key actuator), for about $20 my cost. I had to get under the dash and drop the steering column to get to it. Autozone sells them. Mine went out after about 200K miles. If a shop does it, add about 1.5 hours of labor to that, so it should be under $200.

it all depends on the car and how hard it is to do, some ignition switches are in the column right after the ky tumbler....newer escorts are this way......some that over 4 hours to change.....what make and model vehicle we talking about....i am an ase certified master auto tech with 24 years exp.... plus the switch versus the circuit is completely different....what happened?

...ignition switch or the ignition circuit?

That's a BROAD spectrum, and even broader range of vehicles to wonder which is being worked on.

If there's a bad connection for the ignition, and somebody has to troubleshoot it, there might be no cost at all for parts, and a few hours labor.

Ignition switch in some cars is REALLY easy to get at, and cheap part to boot. This whole deal depends on what their labor rate is, what's actually going to be done, and what kind of car.

Unfortunately, labor is the killer in many situations.
