Car Rental

My car just died and I am going out of town. I am in Bakersfield, CA and need to make a round-trip to San Diego? Are there any cheap sites or rental companies out there? Thanks for any info.

Looks like Hotwire.com for you in Bakersfield. I just did a query for both 2 days and a week for a 25 year old driver wanting a rental starting Sept 11th at noon:

daily rate for Compact/Economy = $22.95 <---went up to $24.95 on 2nd try
daily rate for Midsize = $23.95 <------same as above
daily rate for Standard = $25.95 <----$27.95

weekly rate for Compact = $16.95/day
weekly rate for Economy = $18.95/day

5 days usually qualifies for weekly rate. I can't determine what rental company/location this is for as it's Hotwire.com and they tell you after you commit. I checked Travelocity and Expedia and they were 'up there' ---> $39.95 daily rate on Travelocity for the cheapy. You could try Priceline.com and maybe start your bids at $4 lower than the weekly rate of Hotwire's prices because Priceline charges $5.95 fee in addition to any purchase.

Good luck!

budget. Check their website. I've found them A LOT cheaper than hertz and Alamo, after any discount I could get. You can get their economy model for $26.00/day, compact for 28, midsize for 33, etc. Check their website. This is for Bakersfield. Oh yea, you get unlimited miles. If you're a reckless driver, get their insurance. If your credit card covers that, then don't. Then you can drive like a maniac.

That's probably why rentals always drive like crap even though they only have 5k miles.

Did you realize that the "credit card insurance" is secondary to your own insurance? So if you have an accident, your insurance pays first, then whatever isn't covered is picked up by the credit card coverage.

If you have an accident, your insurance is going to pay and it goes on your record.
