Going down to Baja for the weekend in July .... thinking about renting a car. Is this a good or bad idea ... anyone know any cheap places to do this?

there are many car rental companies in San Diego that will sell you Mexican insurance (required to drive in Mexico, or at least it used to be). check the San Diego Yellow Pages.
