I have a toyota 2006 highlander and I've been having this issue for a while now. I don't know what is the cause of it, sometimes when I hit the lock button the remote I will hear like a click coming from the car, but it doesn't lock. I think there is a signal being sent because of that click.

If I keep pressing the lock key sometimes after a while the car goes crazy and starts blowing the horn(I guess the security kicking in)

Any idea what could be going on?

I changed the battery already.

  1. Wireless Door Lock Stop Function If any of the following conditions are detected, the wireless door lock does not function. Lock operation
  2. When any door is open (Door courtesy SW on)
  3. The ignition key is inserted into the ignition SW (Unlock warning SW on)
  4. Ignition SW is on
I take it none of the doors will lock, and not just the drivers.?Also the system may store a DTC-it will not turn on the CEL.

check the actuators in the doors, mebbe they have slipped out of the optimal position to pull the lock rods down? i just had to readjust mine on the passenger side because it wouldnt unlock without pressing the button like a million times. of course, mine is an aftermarket set up, my truck doesnt have automatic locks/ windows/ remote start or anything like that

None of the doors will lock.
Do you think that the actuators on all the doors could be messed up?

I'll double check this

Thank you

Sounds like it thinks the key is in the car, and it won't lock the doors.

My Jeep will do that if the fob is in the car. Even if you push the lock button on the door, the doors won't lock. It makes a similar sound, as if the doors did lock, but they don't actually lock.

I took your advice and played around with it a bit. Here is what I found:
I think this is common for most cars, but for my car when I unlock(and I assume its the same for locking as well) the driver side unlocks first, followed by a very brief pause then all other doors unlock. If I am sitting in the passenger seat I hear two clicks, one for the driver side unlock and then another click and all other doors unlock.
Now having said that like I said before I do hear a click when I try to lock, but only one click, not two clicks as the car does when I unlock.
Furthermore if I manually lock the driver side lock by hand and then after that press the lock button on the remote the car doors LOCK.
So I think these two clicks are related. Maybe the driver side door lock is causing some interference which is blocking other doors to not lock.
What do you guys think is going on?

When you click to unlock the the doors only the drivers door will unlock.
If you click again within 3 seconds all the doors will unlock.
That is standarded operation.
If the drivers door lock solenoid is having a hard time pulling the lock down it may be signaling to the computer that it can't lock-just a guess though.
Pull the door panel off and lube the linkage-cheapest way to start with.

To narrow it down you need to be able to duplicate the problem -you say that this is happening often.

1:With the drivers window down and it not locking, insert the key into the igniton switch and remove-try it again, again, and again. Did this make a difference?

2:Open and close a door (I say a door because any door can cause problems if it opened and closed alot) door again, again, and again. Did this make a difference?

I'm going towards the drivers door latch switch-that being the most used.
Though the computer can think that there is still a key in the ignition it can also see (think) that a door is open.
