well, thats what i drive if anyone cared to know, and recently i have been having some problems with it, i took my car in for a tune up and the mecanic told me i neede the "lipsters" (sp?) changed, well, he pretty much told me i could do it myself (which i plan to, im too broke) i was curious if theres any place to find schematics of shots of engines (preferable my car)

thanks yall,

Ummm ok I know a far bit about cars but what in the heck is a "lipsters"?

Chilton makes some great car manuals. Can get them at any book store.

lipsters, they look like small pistons, they are right ontop of the engine, they have a cover, you take off that cover and (in my car) there are 12 of this "lipsters", since im no car buff thats pretty much all i know, thats why i wanted some sort of manual/schematics.

My ex sold Hyundai's for a brief period in 1993 - I'll ask him to call his buddies there and see if they can get one or scan it in, and let you know.

If it doesn't kill me to talk to him. 😉

you know lifters might be it :--) this guy spoke bad english so sue me :---)

so what are these lifters you speak off?

Now lifters I understand. They move the engines valves. The valves allow air to get into the cylinders and exhaust gases to get out of them.

Are you going to try and tackle this yourself? I'm not sure if it's a good idea unless you know what you're doing. You have to take the valve cover off exposing the innards of the engine, I'd be afraid of ruining it, if it was me😛

saco: yeah, like i told i said, when the mechanic explained it it didnt sound so hard, and there really not much damage i could make (thats what he said) i really think i can do it, but i would like to research this a bit more.

now to find a place that sells lifters for a good price, i need 12.

If you are going to takle replacing the lifters, the part that is the link between the valve itself and the camshaft, without any experience, I'd take it to a competent mechanic.

Replacing lifters is not the easiest thing on an overhead cam engine.......specifically, you are going to have to remove the camshaft, including removal of the upper half of its bearings, to access the lifters. This isn't really a job for someone with no experience or the proper tools.

What problem were you having anyway? It's odd that the lifters are a specific culprit and not some other part of the valve train, or some other cause.

well, the car makes a thump thump thump thump sound, not so loud as a thump, but you get the idea.

hmm, i might just wait and take it to a mecanic...not sure yet.
