I went to a local park today which contains a long drive through the woods, where one can pull over in various locations and walk through the trails. After parking in a location I'd been before and going into the forrest with a few of my friends, we were having a nice Friday after noon.

Upon our arrival to my old Toyota pickup, we found the passenger side window to be broken. My collection of about 75 CDs, two DVDs (Full Metal Jacket, Last Samurai), some cash in the glove box, and the faceplate to CD player were stolen. My dash was ripped apart in an unsuccesful attempy to take the head unit. The well in the dash containing my change was gone, and my friend's school backpack full of drafting tools and books (valued at $200-$500) plus his car's registration was also gone.

I hope my insurance covers this, and I hope I one day find those responsible because it will be very enjoyable for me to beat their heads into the dirt, because I have a feeling the cops won't be doing much about it.

Have your friend drive their car to the same spot on a similar day, then stake it out and catch them in the act. These people would probably do it again.

That sucks. :( Why did your friend have his car registration in his backpack? That should be... in his car.

Keep an eye on eBay for your items, it wouldn't be the first time a criminal mastermind tried to sell stolen goods on there. :)

He just got the car and it was being repaired, so he had to carry it the previous few days.

As for the comment on carrying real CDs, I'd say about half of them were burnt. I loved those CDs like I assume I would my own children.

They ripped out my useful plastic change well, took my friends drafting tools and registration, and took two library-rented DVDs. Most of the stuff they got they will likely throw away, while causing us tons of trouble.

They got a Civix EX (expected) at the same time. I've gone to thise place tons of times and done the same thing, so staking it out seems pointless to me. Although the rewards would be fantastic.

Grr. That sucks.
This is why you NEVER have anything visible in your car.
I use camo inside mine, so it just looks like a frame of a car with nothing inside

Because most sane people don't live in fear of their car being broken in to.

i'm not sure any type of insurance would cover it... homeowners might if it was parked on the property

Agreed, to a point. Most "sane" people might not live in constant fear of having their car broken into...but by that same measure, most "sane" people are also aware that theft is a fairly common crime. As such, they would do what they can so as not to leave anything overly valuable in either a very visible, or less-than-secure, place.

I've only had one my car broken in to once, in the 8 years i've been driving a vehicle. I'm sure there have been many who have never had their car broken in to. What are the odds?

Also, I along with many others have insurance. I'm not spending time to copy all my CD's and label them, just because i'm afraid of a retarded thief.

I'll be putting my new CDs back into my car, because that is where I listen to music. If it weren't an old truck I would get one of those car alarms that go off if you come within a foot of the vehicle.

Yes you're carrying around music, but you're asking to be jacked.
It doesn't take much to burn a CD.
Takes me less than 4 min per disc if I do "on the fly"
Also where are you gonna store 75 CD's ? it defiinitely isn't gonna fit into the glove box.
There is no reason why anyone should be carrying around 75 CD's in the first place.

I like how you blame the victim. I can carry around whatever I please, and if some jackass wants to break my window and steal it all well then he just got off with a bunch of CDs he can get $1 each for at the local pawn shop.

CDs may cost a lot when you buy them, but when some of them are burnt and all of them are disc-only in less than perfect shape, they aren't worth much to anyone but the owner. It's not even the money, it's the fact that I lost my favorite music, and now I know I'll never go out and buy the same crap again.

So, by your logic, there is no reason why people should have anything of value on them, at any given time, since their is a remote possibly of them "getting jacked".

Well, I better take the stereo system, radar detector, and sunglasses out of my car too. Hell, I might as well sell my HDTV and my computer, because they are valuable, and someone could break in to my home and steal them.

Sorry, but your logic sucks.

BTW,I have about 100 cds in a binder, that stores quite nicely under my seat.
