Hi, I have a 93 Grand Am and have just ran into this problem recently. I was hoping someone here could help me. What happpens is that whenever I turn on my lights, my radio/digital clock fades out and my radio picks up a lot of static and it acts as if there is a power drain or my battery is dying.

I have no problem starting my car and there are no voltage jumps or anything. I had my alternator and battery replaced about 6 months ago so I dont think that is the problem. Anyone have any idea as to what is wrong and how I should go about fixing it?

Thanks in advance.

Hmm, sounds like the voltage isn't up to scratch. Maybe you've got a wrong fuse in there or something.

My friends amp and speakers are so powerful that you can *see* the beat in the lights. The lights dim each time there's a lot of bass. lol.

Hmmm... I don't think it is that because this problem just surfaced. Also, my voltage meter reads at the same place that it always has.
Any other ideas?

But seriously have you changed the bulbs or messed with the wiring anyways 1.e. replaced radio or speakers?

the rheostat that controls the interior lighting is probably going bad. get the headlight switch replaced and your problem will probably go away.

edit: does your Grand Am have the headlight switch on the turn signal stalk?---If so, I would instead replace the dimmer switch.

The radio isn't sttock but it isn't new either. We have had it in the car for at least 5 years I would say.
And yes, the headlights switch is on the turn signal.
Also, I forgot to mention this but while I was examining my car I also noticed my fog lights no longer worked. I assume the problems are related. ANy new ideas? Thanks...

I think on some of the Grand Am's the fog light switch is part of the dimmer switch as well---you should be able to replace the part for less than 50.00

Ok, sorry but I don't know anything about eletrical components in a car. What exactly does the dimmer switch do? Sorry, I am a civil engineer and the extent of my knowledge with electricity is the right-hand rule. Wow, thats a bad joke waiting to happen...
