Hit a (small) but deep pot hole on the way to work. I thought it just blew out a tire so I put on the spare and had the wife take it in.

It seems like the rim got bent which sliced the tire which blew it out which threw out the alignment on the car. So I'm looking at a big bill, is there any way I can get out of this. I don't think my insurance will cover it and I doubt very seriously if Honda will cover anything since it is still under the original manufacturer warranty. It's an aluminum rim which will be around 200ish, a Michellin tire for about 130, plus the alignment and labor.

Am I just fubared and just need to badmouth the state about their crappy roads or can I recover any money?

I have heard of situations where people have gotten money from the state (I live in California) for situations like this. Good luck..

Potholes really piss me off. The city and state waste all my tax dollars on crap I don't give a $hit about, but they ignore one of the few things I do care about. B@stards. :frown:

OMG that type of thing pisses me off more than almost nothing else..
crappy city can't even fix the potholes which are so rough on the cars, and even unsafe sometimes when they are HUGE.

damn!! :|

You're screwed. Sorry. Funny. Same thing happened to me in October 2001. I had a 98 Accord LX. Driving up my street, which is basically a 4 x 4 testing ground with all the moon-crater-like potholes. I knew where they all were. But, cresting the hill, some idiot was in the middle of the road, forcing me all the way to the right.

Both right wheels went into the same 12-inch deep pothole. Bent both rims. Lucky for me, the rims were steel and the tires (Michelin MxV4's) were fine. $130 for the rims $25 balance/mount tires. Out of my pocket. Suck it up. Sell the Accord. Buy a truck. I did. Now I AIM for the potholes. :D

The potholes are bad here. They patch them and then 2 weeks later...They're back..

I usually know where most of the ones are, but I was trying a shortcut to work as I was running late. Same thing happened to me..a wanker was poking along and then went mostly to the left hand lane to turn, but just enough to hang back in the lane to make me go all the way to the right.

What kind of truck did you get?

Depends on the county/city. Some will reimburse you for damages done to your car if you can show them pictures of the road that did the damage along with the damage done to your car.

<< If you live in Michigan you can file a claim with the state... >>

kind of wish I hadn't paid my property tax on the car yet and I would have more negotiating power...

Aluminum wheels can't be straightened (steel can) so your best bet is to check your local salvage yard... they should be able to get you a replacement that's less expensive than from the manufacturer. There are also some companies that do refurbish wheels so you might check the net.

Tires, if you have road hazzard warranty, can be replaced for free... if not you're SOL.

Alignment... again... SOL
