Ok well here's what happened, I just bought a new cd player for my car or rather just the head unit which has a built in cd player. I bought the Alpine CDA-7965 which as far as I can tell ONLY has pre-amp outputs! Is there anyway to wire it without an amp? I mean is there some kind of converter cable or something that I can use to wire it directly to the factory speaker wire? I have changed the speakers themselves but I haven't rewired the speakers. I already have one amp installed for my subwoofers and I have all the wiring in for that so basically my question is how to go about installing my new head unit? Do I need to wire up my second amp for the speakers? Or can I do something easier and cheaper?

 
You should change your topic to car audio people. It sounds like you bought a tuner in which case you are sol, but I don't know for sure. I'll make a phone call & be back soon.
 
I looked at the alpine spec page for your head unit and it really doesn't say...

The question I have is why buy that head unit(mid to high-end unit) and not use an amplifier..

It's like playing 48KBps MP3's on Klipsch speakers...

Hate to tell you, but the CDA-7965 is indeed a tuner. If you are looking for the cheaper way, then you should return it, and get one of the following:
CDA-7862 In-Dash CD Player/Receiver/ Ai-Shuttle Controller
CDA-7863 In-Dash CD Player/Receiver/Ai-Shuttle Controller
CDA-7864 In-Dash CD Player/Receiver/Ai-Shuttle Controller

Yea I have an extra amp laying around I'll throw that in next weekend and get my system all powered up! 🙂 When I bought it I wasn't sure exactly what I was buying in the sense that I thought it would have speaker outs but it doesnt. Anyway its not a big deal I can wire the amp next weekend I just wasn't sure how to untill now and I thought maybe there was something in the deck that I was missing I guess not though.
