Total charging for replacement of ECU in a '92 Eclipse. (The ECU has been purchased and they are going to replace it after 'cleaning' the Cylinder. It was purchased online from another vendor.)

EDIT: They said that not all Cylinders are firing right now, and the one that wasn't, needs to be cleaned.

Total, $500?

Good or bad? Need more details?

(Going to take it here soon, and are also calling other places.)

Thanks.

The best thing to do is to call other places and get quotes. I know nothing about that model of car, but just ask them how many hours of labor they charge for it and how much their rates are.

Buy the Haynes/Chilton manual, and do it yourself!

Quoted $800 for a lower intake manifold gasket replacement on a 95 olds cutlass. Bought the service book, did it myself for 100$ in parts.

You can do it!

$500 isn't bad for getting a car fixed by a shop, but it sounds like they're screwing you. "Cleaning" a cylinder won't make it start firing again, however, if it has a buildup of stuff because it hasn't been firing properly it might need to be cleaned. I would get a second estimate.

And WTF does "cleaning" the cylinders entail?

Thats kind of what I was wondering, but didn't want to sound like a n00b.
I'm just wondering specifically what they're doing to see if it's worth paying for. If they're just going to put a bottle of injector cleaner in the gas tank and call it "cleaning the cylinders" then I'd be wary.

Sounds like some combustion chamber cleaner may do what they are saying they will do for $500... but I could be wrong.

Sorry to not get back to this sooner.

Yes, the ECU was purchased through a vendor found on ebay.

The $500 was for the removal/installation and "cleaning".

We called some other places, and it some places said that was right, some said it was too high.

Had to go with it in the end. (Thanx for the help.)
