Would you all say a 99 Mustang rebuilt is worth $4000 with 84,000 miles? It's in excellent condition. My sister is thinking about buying it but we are newbs. Should she avoid it?

First... Caveat emptor (buyer beware). Make sure you are informed. You can check out the blue book pricing through MSN, Yahoo!, or even straight from Kelly Blue Book... just to get a ballpark figure. Then look up info on the particular model, issues, etc. Then actually test out the car and look at it under the hood, etc...

OR

Find a friend who is a good mechanic and have their opinion on it after seeing it.

Good luck.

Truth be told I didnt see it. She is test driving it tomorrow. Shes picky about the way a car looks and she said it was nice. This will be her first car. Mom and dad said it was nice aswell. I'll ask and see. BTW its not from a car lot someone is just selling it. I think the car was just wrecked and a fender and whatnot was replaced.

Like I said I don't know all the details. I will try and get them.

I haven't actually looked at the blue book price, but offhand, it sounds like a decent deal... particularly if its well-equipped. Make sure to do a check on its history.

Get a carfax report.

If you suspect an accident in the car's history, run a carfax report. If it is a salvage title it will significantly reduce the vehicle's value.

I just asked my sister and she said she was gonna take it to have it looked at before she decides. I was just getting some opinions.

She said the Car/Motor was a v6 35th anniversary or something.

Any idea why it was rebuilt?

Probably because that 3.8 is a pile of garbage cleverly disguised as a motor. Watch it if that's an auto transmission as well, it's probably not far off from a rebuild.

V6 Mustangs are a dime a dozen. I see way too many of them on the highways around here.

They said they talked the guy down to $3500. Said the guy had 4 cars and didn't want to pay insurance on it anymore is the reason for him selling. They test drove it and said it drives good. Said they was gonna take it to a mechanic Monday to have it looked at. Curious they said a theft light came on in the car. They couldn't remember if it came on when the car was off or while they was driving it.

Whats this mean?

Yep, check the car's vin on carfax and make sure he has the title, plus have a signed contract when you buy it, and make sure you see a valid driver's license.
