Car nees a bath, and I live in an apartment

This is what I get for buying a black car 😛 A couple weeks back, it was looking pretty grubby, so I took it to a local drive-through wash on my way to somewhere else. Came out looking worse than when it went in :| I can't really hand-wash it here at the apartment, so I'm not sure what to do. I know some of the car-wash places around here have bays with hand-operated power washers, but I haven't taken the time to check those out yet; I'm not sure what using one of those would cost. Any other ideas?

Nathan

PS: and no, I can't just take it to a relative's house and use their driveway. I moved to take a new job last year, and all of my relatives live about 300 miles up the highway. The friends I've made so far mostly live in apartments, too.

Yeah, this is a sticky situation (no pun intended). The last time I lived in that situation, I just didn't wash my car, but it was an old car and I didn't care too much how it looked. At my current place, I have a place to wash it, and at my next place, I'll live close enough to my folks to wash it and change the oil there.

I guess your best bets are the you-wash-it car wash places, if you can find one near you. I have no idea what they cost.

1) Find a detail shop who does hand washes.
2) Buy the bucket, soap and wash mitt, then use the wand at the self serve place.

I don't know I own a home and my neighbor dosen't have a water faucet in the front of his house. He uses a bucket and water. He just has to come in and out often.

I've gotten decent results with just a couple buckets, but rinsing it a bit of a hassle.
Normally I go to a self-service place, and just use my own wash mitt and soap and whatnot, avoiding the brushes they have there.

Drive around until you find one of those fund raiser car washes with the young bikini-clad girls waving their towels in the air.

It might not turn out all that good, but in the grand scheme of things it may just be the best car wash you've ever had.

seconded.

I believe I've moved far enough south to be in the Bible belt; sometimes I wonder if they know what a bikini is here 😛 School should be starting up again soon, so maybe I'll see a few more - band fundraisers, chearleaders, etc.

Ordered the 4-in-1 stuff this morning. Hopefully it'll be here by next weekend, and I can try it out. My plan is to run it through the auto-wash once to knock the big crap off, since it hasn't been washed in a while, then bring it home and try this stuff. If it works, I know quite a few people who would be interested in it.

EDIT: looks like you were right. I checked Autozone, Advace auto parts, and O'Reilly, and nobody had anything like this.

The DP 4-in-1 came in Thursday, and I just finished washing the car. The stuff works beautifully 😀 I'll post some pictures if I get a chance to shoot some today.

I will say one thing though - the branching wheel spokes on my car are a PITA to clean. I don't particularly care for how they look, either. Once the car needs new tires, I may look into new rims, as well.

Went to the camera store to look at some stuff this afternoon, and decided to shoot a few, since I had my camera with me. Didn't have any pictures of my new car yet, anyway 😛

It looks good man - with the water restrictions I'm going to cut back on full washes too, so my 4-in-1 may get a new use. What's great is you can mix 2oz in a 32oz spray bottle and use it as a quick detailer too - not to mention a clay lubricant.

BTW - stop taking your car to the local wash unless it's touchless! Swirls are your enemy...

P.S. I hope you're using a good microfiber towel with the rinseless wash
