I would love to get a hard drive based or DVD based MP3 player for my car - to replace my current stereo.

Pioneer DEH-P7600MP

I have it and it's great. $240 is a great price and if you can find it for less Sound Domain will even price match it.

Edit: etronics.com has it for $215. You can either buy it from them or get Sound Domain to PM.

I had a JVC SH99 in my last car. It's still working, but I have some unknown error codes with the eject feature (motorized stuff sucks on any headunit). I have a JVC KD-AR3000 in my current car and it works well. Tasteful display, ergonomics, and a great screen with smooth scrolling titles (many units are jerky, like most Alpines).

Alpines Jerky?

I just dropped 3K in my Car Audio and my Alpine headunit is not jerky at all.

Thanks guys for your recommendations....

I went with the Alpine CDA-9827

I bought it at tweeter where it was listed for 279.00 my boy is a former employee and they still gave him a discount....so I only paid 215.00 plus tax so it came to 227.00 out the door.

What a sweet head unit. I'm thoroughly delighted with my decision. 170 songs on a cd owns me.

I've got a JVC KS-980 or something like that... I've had it for 2 years now... great product, fast searching, random mode... works perfectly.

I'm sure the newer JVC brand decks are even better (mine has faceplate 1/8th input)... I can hook my ipod up to it and let the music play..

Back in 2001 I got an Aiwa MP3 CD car stereo... it was seriously great... the only part lacking was when you switch away from the mp3 cd and then u come back to it, it only remembers the song, not the exact time you left off, so you have to hear the song over again... that was my only complaint...

Now with my new honda, i got the factory installed cd mp3 player... this one is great... reads fast... remembers everything... but the freaking thing doesnt have a display... so i have hundreds of song, but nothing displays the name =P

mp3.com used to have a great guide to car stereo's but I Don't think they have it anymore =T

Get the Panasonic 783U . Gunmetal silver/blue lights , very clean look. Has ran great for the past 2 years. I picked it up for $175. Removeable faceplate. Non-motorized meaning it won't break.

But he won't have the tilt options. I love the tilt on my deck. Makes it so much easier to press things.
