I need a temp vehicle while down in Florida. I looked at long term car rentals and its crazy expensive.

Options? Suggestions?

Have you considered a second hand motorcycle?

That and some rain gear should be pretty good around town basic transportation.

At the end of your 6 months, you could resell or ride it home.

Best of luck,
Uno

Can't really drive my family around on that.

Buying a used car and it selling it is probably the easiest option if you're not willing to drive to Florida.

Have you thought about shipping your car by train? I did an estimate for myself to ship my car from Austin to Seattle. It was going to be about $1000-1500 each way.

How much does a long term rental cost for 6 months? If you believe the Google ads, you can get something for $10-15 a day.

I've never used it, but what about swapalease.com

Yup, Swap-a-lease or Lease Trader:

Just remember that you will get zinged with the disposition (return) fee (usually $400), as well as covering any wear & tear over the lease allowance. I would recommend going with a Honda because (1) they are super-reliable, (2) you get a $1,500 excessive wear & tear allowance under their Lease Advantage program, and (3) they include GAP insurance in case the car gets stolen or totaled:
