So yeah I have a fairly new 2008 Subaru Impreza. Every now and then when I turn the ignition the car sputters and does not start. After a few extra turns then the engine will start up. I usually hear sputtering coming from those old school cars where you have to give it some gas and hope that you don't "flood the engine" or something to that effect. Other than that on an old Civic sputtering occurred right before the battery straight out died. It could be the weather I suppose...it's like 30 are here.

I kinda just started this new job and I don't have a backup car or friends who live close by so I would hate it if I could not make it into work because of a car issue. Any ideas? I doubt any battery-checking place is open during the evenings hu? Should I just go down to Walmart and buy a new battery?

The quick start guide in my 07 civic actually specifies that the engine may crank over a couple times before starting. From what I can gather browsing 8thcivic.com, my model car waits until cylinder 1 is in a particular location before the engine decides to do more than turn over.

Maybe something similar is happening with your Impreza? If so, there isn't much you can do about it.

Edit: But, of course, just to echo what the others have said, why not stop in at the dealer?
