car insurance ?

On my car I carry the minimum basic liability. In my state it's 10/20/10. I think this means if I hit someone that it would only cover 10k to repair or replace their car. God forbid I hit a Mercedes, but I will carry on. If I did get in a wreck and it cost more than 10k would I be held responsible for forking up the remainder of the casH?

Not necessarily. If the Mercedes owner has comprehensive coverage higher than your liability, his insurance would make up the difference. But...they might come after you for compensation. Sounds reasonable, but I'm not an insurance agent, so don't take this as gospel.

you can always be sued for what your insurance doesn't cover
that is why you should have adequate insurance

unless you have no assets, people/lawyers tend not to sue people that have nothing to sue for

getting judgements against poor people doesn't make the yacht payments

You better believe you'd be held responsible. They would go after you, and maybe your parents too if you're a minor. You need more insurance!!!

Well that Mercedes driver shouldn't have been driving something so damned expensive in such an unreasonable fashion then! Though...with the cost of repairs to cars like Mercedes and BMW...if you need a new oil filter it would be chaper to buy a new car.
