So I'm getting car insurance for the first time. From the online quotes I did, Progressive is way cheaper than Geico and others (like $400 instead of $600). Does this sound odd?

Also, I'm wondering about a few of these things:

Personal Injury Protection - necessary if you have good health insurance through work? Progressive's is pretty cheap anyway.

Underinsured Property Damage - okay if I decline with a crappy car (blue book is probably less than $2000)

Try esurance.com, Amica, 21st century, Liberty Mutual, State Farm, Safeco. The first three on the list should be cheaper than Progressive.

If you have Military lineage, try USAA.

Amica and USAA are considered the best insurers per JD Power (check their website).

Last time I shopped around, Progressive was way cheaper than everybody else. I didn't believe the quote so I called back and checked with a different agent just to make sure my quote was correct. It was. So I went with them.

Uninsured and Underinsured was included as part of my policy and so was over the minimum coverage requirements. Progressive was still lower than everybody else.

I'm with Progressive.

ETA- PIP was included as well.

progressive used to be way cheaper until i moved to california.

I was paying like $45 a month for 100/300/100 coverage on a brand new scion TC with $500 deductible

Washington. I think it really depends on where you live.

If you drive a really crappy car, start with liability only. Then ask about comprehensive--this will cover you if your car gets broken into or stolen, and it generally doesn't cost much.

Don't touch collision until you're over 25, have a high-paying job, or drive a really nice car.

I'm in Washington and I have had good luck with State Farm. Pemco is another good one, their rates may not be quite as good, but they have a well-earned reputation for service.

Oh, and I found Geico to be quite high when I checked.

Hahahaha, esurance, esurance is a rip. I had them at one point and decided to look for lower rates and Geico quoted me half what esurance wanted. I kept Geico for 2 years thinking I was getting a deal, now I have farmers and have saved an additional 25%.
