Car insurance typically goes down for males at age 25 or 27?

Inspired by this thread. I will be turning 25 in about 2 1/2 months, and I'm hoping to look forward to a reduced car insurance rate. However, my fiance claims that males typically do not get a decreased rate until they turn 27, age 25 is for females.

My record is squeaky clean, never in an accident, let alone filed anything. So what is it for males? I currently get a helluva a rate from Progressive (IMO anyway), and I'm hoping it goes down even further when my policy renews about 2 weeks after my 25th birthday.

TIA

with State Farm I did not notice much of a change. But this is because I was already receiving a really nice 'good student discount' and i did their 'safe driver' program (which really was watching a 20 min video and answering some questions). Those both went away when I turned 25, but being 25 male with no accidents/tickets kept me low.

On average, most car ins companies reduce the rates at 25. You are then considered an experienced driver.

I'm with State Farm too, and when I turned 25 they sent me a check for the difference. Now my payments are lower than my wife's, although I think that's because her car is much newer (more new?).

I got a nice rate drop when I turned 25 with Allstate. I forget how much, maybe $20-$30/month.
Yes I'm male.

I did not notice much of a change either when I turned 25. I wouldn't call $20/mo. a big drop.

I'm 20 and Allstate promised me that when I graduate and have to go off of my family policy, that they'd give me the same rate that my dad gets.... we'll see about that....

In many states, the reason the rates drop is not because you're at an age that they deem to be old enough not to wreck. The price drop is related to your credit rating. If you have a perfect credit rating, you can't be considered anything better than above average until you hit 25. So, when I was 24, I could only be considered one or two steps below perfect, but when I turned 25, I was rated what I actually was, and thus my rates dropped.

At least that's what it was here. The agent (I had two tell me the same thing) told me that it varies from state to state.

In MA, you are declared unexperienced until you have driven for 6 years. AFter 6 years, you get a discount. Then, you get another discount at age 24. Why 24? because it's not 17;)

My last 4 insurance bills (for 6 months coverage). 2003 Altima, full coverage, 1995 Neon, liability only, coverage for myself and my wife:

$610 (June '04, I turned 24 on June 7)
$570 (Dec. '04)
$517 (June '05)
$448 (Dec. '05)

Depreciation of the Altima may have something to do with it though.

my company doesn't go by age, but how long you've been driving. After 7 years it goes down, for me that happens to be when i turn 25.

It's neither 25 or 27. It's after you have 9 years of driving experience. For MOST people, that happens to be 25...

Hmm, I turned 23 last year and insurance dropped almost $500/year. However, Astronomical - $500 = Astronomical. That's what I get for full coverage $500 ded. on a 04 car :|

what you talk'n about?

Allstate lowered my rates at 25 despite the fact that I'd only been driving since 22.

and how do they determine how long 'we've' been driving...

date our drivers license was first issued?

or date of first auto insurance policy signed up for?
