Car Insurance SUCKS!

OK i have an '89 Cavalier 2.0L 4-cyl and i pay $110 a month for it. What a load of crap State Farm. I've had in for almost a year now, i'm almost 17, and i just heard some of my friends rates with camaros that are the same as mine! I hate State Farm!!!!!!!!!!
Any reccomendations?

Thats about what mine was on a 81 dodge mirada at 17 but now I'am 24 and got the big discount. Now I only pay around $600 a year on 2 cars.

State Farm has a reputation as being expensive and very slow to pay on claims. Must have something to do with their commercials to the contrary.

Shop around. Being without insurance is much worse.

Your insurance will be based on car, coverage, location, and age. Being under 24 you will pay a higher rate. If you accumulate any points expect it to be even higher.

Location also plays a large role in your rate. I lived in NJ when I was your age, and paid over $1000 a year for an 84 Cougar. I moved to MI and my rate dropped by a few hundred dollars.

If your car is a coupe, find out if State Farm classifies it as a Sports Car. You and I know that a Cavilier is FAR from being a sports car, but you would be surprised how insurance companies classify cars.

Definitely shop around. You may be able to find a better rate.

HTH...

16-23 yr olds statistically have terrible records, thats why they charge higher premiums... And I have to say its true - I knew at quite a few people in my high school who got into dumb accidents (like driving off a cliff and smashing into garage door because they forgot to open it). This was two years ago, but when I was a HS senior some girl was voted worst driver in the yearbook because she trashed 3 vehicles in 3 years.

Well, change insurance comp. Being without insurance(not even posssible over here), causing an accident sure is one big SUCK.

I would contact Geico and see if you can get a better rate. If one of your parents has ever been a military officer or NCO you may be eligible to get USAA, which IMO is the best insurance company around.

If I were you, I would limit my coverage to liability as I don't see any benefit to collision insurance on an 11-year-old Cavalier. If you live in a high-theft area you may want to consider comprehensive as well (this is still much cheaper than carrying collision).

I have to agree with Tee_Edwards. USAA is by far the best insurance company around. They are great to deal with for claims and their prices are the best I have seen.

Geico charges an arm and a leg, I found insurance locally for half of what Geico wanted. Like everyone else said, shop around, you'll be suprised how much the rates vary.
