Car Insurance question

Why did my car insurance go up 90 or so dollars from 6 months ago?

I'm with USAA, no tickets in the past 6 months, no accidents, and I have the same car as I did with the last insurance quote

Could be car related. Ur car might now have a higher crash rate. Like a whole bunch of kids can now afford ur car and has crashed recently.

Sent from my Nexus One

Mine went up recently and when I called to ask why I was told they weren't making enough money with the previous rates.... While the rate was still quite good compared to other insurers, it was about a 25% increase.

Ive had USAA for a year. I didn't have a car for a gap in 2010. Maybe that's why

should I switch insurance companies?

Huh? You had it a year but had a gap in 2010? Do you mean you had it for a year (2009) and only recently bought it again?

There are other factors besides yourself that effect your rate. If the area you live in had a spike in accidents or even robberies, that will effect it. If your age group shows an increase in accidents, that will effect it. It's more than just you, it's also about people who share the same attributes or whatever you call it as you.

Also, it's the game they play. They give you a low rate to get you to move, then they increase it slowly every year.

I got a letter from AAA yesterday saying they were increasing the yearly premium on one of my vehicles by $736 and decreasing another of my vehicles by the same amount. I almost just filed it, because it was a wash, but my curiosity got the better of me so I called my agent. She couldn't figure it out either, but she's fixing it and by the end of the conversation she figured out a way to reduce my overall premium for my 3 vehicles. Call your agent because you never know what discounts they can apply unless you ask.

Standard practice in the insurance industry I think, insurance companies will under-bid your first quote so you go with them, then slowly increase rates and hope you're too lazy to switch. Quite often it works, though this is why I've changed health insurance carriers three times in two years at work... we always get a great deal for the first year, and for a company of 9 people it's not too painful to switch and save the money every year.
