Car insurance question...

Is it legal or possible to insure an automobile in a state that the owner does not reside. I moved to philly a few months ago and insurance will double when i transfer the policy. However, i have family in Bozeman, MT and would like to try and insure it there instead. What would i have to do in order to accomplish this? Is it even possible. I dont plan on being in philly long, but have no clue where i might end up.

I had a friend that had his car insured through his grandparents living in philly i think and he used the car in NY to save money.

Yea, i think its possible. Its just that everytime i relocate (2 times in the last 3 years) i have had to go to their local office. Which means going to Bozeman OR trying to get a family member to do it. This is where i wonder if its possible. Could one of them start a policy "in my name?" Awww, hell i dont know. 🙁
