Car insurance question

I just started having my own car insurance 6 months ago and it's time for my renewal with Geico. However, I did an online quote with Progressive that's $150 cheaper (for a 6 month period). Should I switch to Progressive, or should I perhaps wait it out, since I've only been with Geico 6 months and it might look bad (?) to switch?

What did it say about the other ones? Am Fam, State Farm, etc? If you don't want to switch, call up Geico and tell them that Progressive can get you at XXX and ask what they can do to lower the rate because you are thinking of switching. Also, don't go 100% on the online things because they have to run your information first and might find something they don't like to raise it up. Also make sure all the coverages are EXACTLY the same or comparing them will give you false results.

Why would it look bad to switch? You want a lower rate just like everyone else :)

Well I was almost likening it to jobs, where you don't want to switch too often. Somewhere down the line, I might want to go back to Geico, and I didn't know if they'd actually look into factors like that.

Yeah, coverages were the same. I never did think of calling Geico and giving them Progressive's quote. I didn't try other insurance companies yet. I had compared them all 6 months ago, and the only one lower than Geico back then was Progressive, but I still went with Geico, since my parents had Geico and I was branching off of their insurance and figured it'd be easier to start there. Now tho', I'm about saving money. :)

Good idea. I don't know how long you've been with them but most insurance companies will give you a no-claim discount after a bit. As soon as you switch, you start from scratch again.

Insurance companies are quite hypocritical. They all say they want your business, but they'll penalize you if you switch.
