car insurance question

Is it almost always cheaper to have 2 cars under 1 person's name (mine) instead of 2 people's (mine + hers) ?

We own a house together and I'm the "head of household" if that matters. She actually pays less for her car than I do right now. I'm thinking combined under 1 name, we could pay less together. I do ALL the driving of both cars anyway. So one of them sits in the garage 90% of the time (getting rid of one is not an option).

Well, if she gets into an accident you are financially liable is all (meaning if she doesn't own anything they can sue you). But since you're married, it wouldn't be that big a deal (more for kid's on parents' policies).

It matters whose name is on the registration, and that you both live in the same household. You being head of household makes little difference since you're married (she owns 50% of your stuff 😉 ). You and your wife both have to be on the cars registration which means you have to re sign the car title. There really isn't a "group" discount for auto insurance which in some states is likely illegal for a company to offer. I guess they do some weird math on probability of property loss that includes both you and the female.

If your state still offers over the phone quotes, find out.
