My wife got in a car accident a while back. The car is still drivable but has a little over 2000.00 worth of damage. It is a 2005 Honda CRV which has a lien on it. We are having some money problems and can't afford our 500.00 dollar deductible plus rental car costs. So we were planning just to take the money from the insurance and hold it until we could get the repairs done.
The check came as a two party check, written to me and Honda(the lien holder). We sent he check to Honda expecting them to endorse it and send it back. They sent us a reply stating they would return the endorsed check once they received a completed work order. So basically now rather then have to come up with just the 500 deductible, they are saying I have to front the whole repair cost before they will give me the check for the repairs. I understand that with the lien they want to make sure the vehicle stays in good working order. But can they do this. I mean there is no way I can get the cash for all of that.
And besides if I planned to repair it myself, or in this case have a friend I know do it, what kind of repair order would they be expecting? I mean can I just copy the estimate and write repaired on it and send them that, lol?
