my family has been with 21st century car insurance for the better part of 20 years.
now we're paying $2500 / 6 months for this policy

our ages and sexes:
male - 55 1 ticket
female -50 clean
male - 25 1 ticket
male - 21 2 ticket, 1 accident
male - 21 clean

cars:
2001 Accord SE
1993 Lexus ES 300
1987 Volvo 240
2000 Camry LE

thats what the record looks like now.
the rates at 21st are exorbitant but supposedly their service cant be beat. (we havent had any trouble or delay in filing any claims.) satisifed customers except for the really expensive rates - so now we're looking to switch cause 2500 seems too much.

any advice as to where to go to get cheaper rates without hurting the service too much?
what do ya think bout car insurance - just go for the cheapest thing out there cause the service is all about the same or does the service and worry-free kinda service come and go from company to company?

Get a quote from another insurance company and tell you current agent you are leaving them.. I am sure they will lower your rates some, if not allot.. Ya can't expect to much with 2 people under 25 though..

I would take collision off of the Volvo and Lexus and up the deductible to 1K.

that should save you some money

Personally, there would have to be a dramatic improvement in the service level of the company to pay those kinds of rates. My representative would have to take me out to dinner, or wipe my ass or something.

4 cars for 5 people.... I hope that the "male - 21 2 ticket, 1 accident" is the one without the car. :D

Well, if you have full insurance on the Lexus and the Volvo, then that's part of your problem. There's no reason to have anything more than liability on cars that old.

I'm sure you guys are still paying on the Camry and Accord, so full coverage is a must. It sounds a little steep, but that's a lot of people and a good number of cars though. Plus, a 21 year old male with 2 tickets and an accient always hurts a bunch.

I'd try and haggle down the rates though. Tell them you're leaving and going to a different company and get some quotes.

Perhaps, but not always true. I pay just $10 more a month for 0 deductible comprehensive on my 1992 honda civic. I think it's well worth it to pay $120/year just in case I total the car or it is otherwise severely damaged.

Is California a "No fault State?" That is what I'm hearing from aroudn the way. I work in an insurace office with billing, and computer management basically. I have my license for property and casualty. From my 2 years experience, I would def. take the 21male with accident and ticket and put them on a liability policy. Probably the 87' Volvo. This would significantly lower your premium. In AR 25 is the "magic age" for getting a premier policy, call and make sure the 25 year old has been updated, or if it can be with the ticket. If you run uninsured, and underinsured motorist, (may be pip there), you shouldn't have to worry about the 87, because if you do total that car, your going to get blue book value, minus depreciation, which probably isn't worth the amount of premium you pay every year.
That's just MO
Also just call and ask if there are any discounts you can qualify for, never hurts to ask.

Your premium here in NJ for the same would probably be even more than that! :disgust:

Thats what 1 driver (under 25) with 1 car (high performance) pays in NYC, so consider yourself lucky.

That seems right for that many drivers and that many cars, 2 of which are new(er).

Thankfully my TDI has managed to sneak under the insurance companies radar and my rates won't be going up.

2002 Golf TDI -- 25 yr. old driver, clean record ---> $1560CDN ($987USD)

:D
