Is it just me or would an HUD in a car be extremely easy to implement? All you need is a transreflective LCD (for sunlight) reflecting from the windshield.

Heh, That would be non-trivial.

My '92 doesn't even have one.

It's not going to happen without serious construction on your dash. I know that '89 Nissan Maxima GXE's had it as an option, and you can get it in the newer buicks or oldmobiles.

What I'd really like to see is a HUD that maps out exactly where the front wheels of the car are heading. This would require head tracking though.

Yeah my dad's midlife crisis Vette has one. It's more a novelty than anything else. You generally know how fast you're going within 5mph or so just by looking out the window, and when do you REALLY NEED TO KNOW RIGHT THIS INSTANT how much gas you have?

I'm more impressed by the infrared system that picks up heat from animals or people in your path and shows it on the windshield. I forget who makes it but I saw it at the L.A. Auto Show a couple years ago.
