car: 3.0l v6 2000 eclipse gt

currently, the only ones available are theHytech headers - $1400 + install, ~30hp. MPH is coming out with some for ~$900+ install.

i'm getting some for $600 INSTALLED within the next few weeks. how long does a good set of headers last, 2-3 years?

forgot to mention, the Hytech headers give a ~30hp alone, ~42hp with the exhaust and s-afc.

before you pick them up- i have never heard of a set of headers producing 30hp. Even a full intake, headers, catback exhaust combo normally only produces 25-30hp max. Headers alone adding 30hp sounds way too optomistic.

You may want to ask for a reliable dyno showing these gains before plopping down your hard earned cash.

Good set of stainless steel ceramic coated headers will last as long as your engine. Headers are known to leak after a couple years tho. Very rare they don't on most v8 applications

Must mean 30 hp if you leave the rest of the exhaust off ;)

Unless the stock pipe is real restrictive you won't see a 30hp gain. Then you have to wonder if <30hp is worth $600

sorry- just to clarify, is that 30hp to the wheels or the flywheel. 30hp at the flywheel would still be about 23hp to the wheels which still strikes me as suprisingly high, but at least a bit closer.

They should last forever.

BTW, there are no such things as headers that add 30 hp, they are sh*tting you. If they can come up with a dyno showing otherwise, I'll eat my words.

i've seen the dyno. the eclipse is not vey optimized from the factory. a CAI alone yields ~9hp, a crank pulley ~8hp. we have THREE cats. a downpipe alone gets ~14hp. i CAN go with no cats, but will opt for a high-flow cat instead. and i will dyno the car MYSELF before and after to see just how much i gained. i'm expecting ~25hp.

I love the pipes on that page "2 inch pipe and a 4 inch tip" Just imagine blowing through a straw into a sewer pipe. "BBBUUUUHHHHHWWWWWPPPP" ;)

I'm actually waiting until spring before going to comptech and having them work on my car. RSX Type S vs the GT should be a good run, though I'll be focusing more on suspension/brakes to get the car more track-suitable for the odd weekend run.

Also tuffguy- what exact mods are you getting? It doesnt' sound like you're getting just a set of headers.

it *would* be a good race, but my car weighs 400lbs more...

i was gonna leave the car alone, but it's too good a deal to pass up. so far i only have the CAI, the crank pulley and the exhaust which will net between 15-20hp. headers are next (~25hp, $600) and i'll have them do a custom exhaust (~?hp, $$$) later on, since i don't like the HUGE tips on the greddy/borla/tanabe. i'll probably just go straight-thru with a tip. plus the car is fully debadged.

after all that is done, the eibach pro kit is next (-1.3"), followed by a custom strut bar and a thicker rear sway bar.

turbo once people actually figure out the engine. MPH has a TT setup on the way. or i could take it in to RRE once i save ~$5000.
