I know, smartphone blah blah blah, but I can't quite bring myself to cut the chord with my standalone GPS. on the handful of times I've tried to use my android phone to navigate around NYC on foot, I've actually been a bit disappointed in terms of accuracy. it typically places me within a block or two of my actual location, which is fine when I'm walking and can see street signs and orient myself accordingly, but that would definitely be a deal breaker on the road.

my current GPS is a Garmin nuvi that's nearing on 5 years old. its age is definitely starting to show -- some dents in the screen and it's processing time feels slow as molasses.

any suggestions on a new one?

the top contender is obviously the newest Garmin released, but at $400, I'm curious to see what my other options are outside of the Garmin nüvi 3590LMT.

traffic updates are in that "nice to have but not mandatory" category. I actually don't do a ton of day-to-day driving (my daily commute is walking to the subway and hopping on a train), but my GPS feels indispensable for all my random weekend road trips.
