Car got towed tonight

Because my mom's apartment complex decided to repaint the old visitors parking into reserved spots without saying anything. $300 bucks down the drain for an hour visit. Ugh /rant

Fuck apartments.

Besides the lack of an enclosed garage, parking is the #1 reason I would never rent an apartment again.

So you did not notice the fresh painting on the parking lot when you parked there?

Pic of said parking spot?

I got lucky recently in that my apartment complex is in the process of repaving all the internal roads and parking lots and I was home to make sure I moved my car and not get towed. My work takes me away from home over 80% of the time and I leave my car parked for weeks at a time. I just happened to complete a project and was home when this work happened otherwise they'd have towed my car.

Yeah, similar things have happened to me before, too.

If I go somewhere and there's a completely empty parking, lot, I get suspicious.

Apartments vary. My current one has an enclosed garage as well as a driveway that can hold two cars. Previous one had a garage, a 1-car space, and tons of visitor spaces. It's one of the things I look for (along with who the internet/cable provider is) when I apartment shop.

It's having people above and/or below me that makes me want to get the hell out of apartments, though! I have a crazy old lady under me who pounds on the wall and complains to management when I'm doing dishes after dinner. Meanwhile, I want to be able to crank a game nice and loud, but I can't. 😡

I feel for you. It sucks to walk outside and find your car gone...

Happened to me earlier this year. Drove a friend of mine to her job at a University. She has a $600 parking tag that we hung on my car.

But recently, due to construction, she had had her reserved parking spot moved. And she directed me to park in what was apparently the wrong spot...

Didn't cost me as much as it cost you. But still the feeling of seeing your car gone sucks.

Best of luck,
Uno

Random story - we used to sit near the parking lot of our apartments in college on game days and when Alumni and others would park there to walk to the games (the apartments were close to campus & the stadium) we would let them know that if they parked there, their car wouldn't be there when they got back. We pointed out the obvious signs "tenant parking only, all others will be towed at owner's expense, 24 hour enforcement, etc". It was a very small lot, barely big enough to hold renters cars, let alone authorized guests. It amazed me how many people kept walking, leaving their car parked there. Cute girls got guest passes to park there, mouthy alumni (or assholes in general) were called in to the tow company pretty quickly. We also enjoyed sitting out there after the game when they returned to find their car gone. We were nice enough to give them the tow company's number. No cell phones then though...

Was it not visible that they were reserved spots?

No. The "Vistor" on the ground was half ass spray painted over. No signs or anything. It was the normal spot I would park in for the last year or so. Apparently the complex decided to start renting out those spots for people.
