Got hit from behind yesterday morning and his insurance co. was very quick to recommend a couple of body shops, which is great, but I want to be sure my car gets fixed right. My car is fairly new (14 months, no other damage) and I want oem parts, not aftermarket, and like new restoration. Suggestions? Should I take to dealer to insure proper parts and warranty? Thanks.

Never had to deal with filing an accident report with ins. company. But I was under the impression that you have to go wherever the Ins. company tells you to. But if not, I would go to the dealer and get OEM. Was there any frame damage (bent frame)?

Having been hit at a stoplight last year I'd say it might be new car time. Visible damage was minimal on my pickup, but I kept finding things that didn't work correclty anymore for months. Just so many wires, hoses, connectors, valves, etc to shift around in an impact ya know?

I was sitting still, other car was going about 20 so it was a rather good THUMP. If you just got dinged then disregard. Warranty's a good question, ask the dealer if having it fixed somewhere else would invalidate your warranty in any way. And make sure you check -everything- before you settle with the insurance company. My windshield wipers quit working after I got hit, didn't noticed till it rained, couldn't prove they were related so guess who got to fix it himself.

Insurance company will recommend some shops. Sometimes it's because their customers are better served by some shops. Other times it's because they are cheaper.

Tell them you will take it to the dealership to get it fixed.

Dealerships will charge them through the ass.

Big concern is it's leased and a friend warned me I could get royally screwed if not fixed 100%.

Sounds like you had a terrible and half-assed bodyshop do your work.
