Car for gf? UPDATED!!

Danman

Lifer
Well my girlfriend's POS car finally took the last sh!t it ever will, she's getting insurance money for whatever it's worth. She's looking for something for around 8 to 10k, and she is gun ho on getting a new Hyundai Accent. I was trying to bring other suggestions to her, but when I need them I can never think of them. Help AT car guys! 😀

UPDATE:

Well, since she has no credit, she needs to get something used. 🙁 Anymore suggestions? She looked at a 2000 Pontiac Grand Am today for 8k loaded with a bunch of options in it. It just had the 4 banger in it, plus I heard there is problems with that engine.

Its got a 10 year warranty and its brand new car. I really don't think its that bad of a choice. For cheap transportation it fits the bill.

If she can go barely over $10k I would get a brand new Hyundai Elantra, she can probably find a 2001 or 2002 dealer with NEW warranty for around $10k.

Or buy a used Hyundai Elantra, these were found on cars.com for 32907

So what's the diff. btwn the Elantra and Accent? I think she really wants to stay under 10, and the Accent I'm pricing is already 12k. 🙁

Accent
Elantra

Hyundai's depreciate big time ... what's the largest local newspaper in your area?

you can also find 2003 corollas (rare finds...) or used 2002 corollas that have been barely driven (5k miles) for that price.

Florida Today. I was on their site but their Automotive links directly to cars.com. I've seen like specials for a "loaded" Accent for 7,995....I may be calling my local Hyundai dealer. Thanks RossMAN, you rock! 😀

Kia Rio? That's a Hyundai company, with the famous Hyundai 10 year warranty.

Seriously, I rented a Hyundai Accent a few months ago, and there's really nothing wrong with them, especially considering the price.

$12,000 MSRP should mean significantly less after a rebate/incentive, and a little dealing.

Paging Dr. RossMAN, tell them about the loss-leader ad. 🙂

Damn can't any of you keep a secret???

Loss leader ads? What's that?

😛

(flips to last weekend's newspaper, classifieds section, auto's ... sees an ad for a clearance 2002 Hyundai Elantra GLS for $10,098 😛 )

I don't know much about the lower-end Hyundais, but my exgf had a 2002 Sonata. I was VERY impressed with its ride, styling, and the new car smell it had. She had leather seats, sunroof, smooth V6, shiftronic transmission, and power everything. I wanted to get one, but I don't like Hyundai.... I may cross over to the dark side and get one when I finally pay off my jeep. 😉

stay away from kia and hundai....kias are known to have electrical problems which cause fire....

stick with honda or toyota you can get a nice civic or accord for 10k like around a 2000

as for that 10yr warrenty look at what it covers...all the crap that breaks on them usually isnt covered...

yea its got i think a 10yr on the drive train but any drive train should last you that long inless you brutally beat that car

I was looking at a 2000 Honda Civic 2 door for 10k.....I don't think it's worth what a Hyundai is........gosh why am I saying this! :Q

Has anybody in this thread making recommendations owned a Kia or Hyundai for more than 3 years? Just out of curiosity.

So according to JD Kia is the worst in America and Hyundai is 30th out of 37. Still personal experience is valuable but that is in line with my understanding of their quality.

Seeing as how women usually don't take good care of their vehicles, get her something ultra reliable (ie, not the Grand Am) - maybe a Corolla or a Civic.
