I noticed that my car started hesitating when i step on the gas...
when i step on the gas, (already on the road driving) nothing would happen for a cplit second, and then the throttle would kick in...jerking me back...anyone know what the deal is?
Help!!!

Could be MANY things. First thing first. Get the car up to standad. i.e how long since changing the spark plugs, wires, cap and rotor, fuel filter, etc.... Once the car is back up to where it should be then you can try and see what might be causing it. Most of the time just doing maintaince that is OVERDUE will fix it.

Also what year, engine, and miles, and trans? And is the engine light on?

I just had the full timing belt group replaced last weekend...to include all the belts, thermostat, water pump, the pulley, sparkplugs, fuel filter, tranny oil, oil filter, heck the whole deal. Tightened the throttle cable also...maybe that's causing it?

nope the engine light is not on...

Also clean your throttle body if you have a multi point fuel injected engine... (I know nothing about Nissans...)

My parent's '96 Hyundai Elantra had severe hesitation probs for a long time. Fuel filter and tranny fluid (ATF) had just been changed, too. Solution proved to be one of, or all of the above (did all these maintenance items on it at once myself):

- fuel injectors cleaned as best as (amateurly) possible, with new o-rings and pintle caps ($2.50/injector rebuild kit)
- new PCV valve ($2-3)
- cleaned throttle body ($1/can cleaner)
- oil change ($10 for oil and filter)

It was stuttering and choppy as all heck for 10 minutes or so when first starting the car again (probably fuel system getting back up to pressure?). It went away after those first 10 min. of idling (giving it gas every once in awhile) and now accelerates silky smooth. :)

I think your 300 is so fast, that when you really press on the gas, you are momentarily propelled into a parallel universe.

This is only instantaneous, and when you pop back into this universe, it seems to you the car hesitated, but that is actually the time you spent in the parallel universe.

You should use caution not to press the gas too hard, or there is a possibility you could become stranded in the alternate universe. If this does happen, be sure not to contact your alternate personality in the alternate universe, doing to could be catastrophic.

Or

You might try cleaning the PCV valve, and running some fuel injector cleaner through a couple of tanks of gas.

After cleaning all the things suggested, take it back to the shop that did the work (you 'had' it done, right?) and ask them to check the timing.

why would it not apply to throttle body systems?

- Check that there are no vacuum leaks between the mass airflow sensor and the throttle body - no loose hoses (clamps), etc...They had to take all that stuff off to do the work you described.

- Possibly they installed the timing belt one tooth off - this would make it run sluggish too. Did it run that way when you picked it up from the shop?

- Also, what kind of plugs did they put in? Nissans are notorious for running crappy with Bosch Platinums (hesitation). They prefer NGK's much more.
