Car Detailing Question

I used Zaino cleaner wax

then I added some meguiar paste wax.

It looks good but if I wanted to add some polish do I have to strip the wax off and start all over?

Polish would strip the wax.

And why do you want to add polish?

Do you have swirl marks?

Polish is pretty hard to apply by hand unless it's simply a filling-in agent.

Cleaner Wax is meant to prep the paint for polish and wax, so cleaner wax, then polish, then protectant wax (such as carnuba or synthetic).

Procedure:

1. Wash with Dawn. Yes Dawn. Not car wash detergent. Dawn.
2. Clay if necessary
3. Polish if necessary. Z-PC Fusion is the one to use from Zaino.
4. First layer of swirl hiding. Zaino Z-5 Pro. Do a few layers if necessary, but shouldn't be if your first layer is done completely, with overlapping lines.
5. Wax with Z-2 Pro with ZFX Flash Cure Additive. Use thin overlapping layers. You can do a few layers.
6. Wipe down with Z-6 Gloss enhancer
7. Finish up with Z-8 Grand Finale Seal.

9) See therapist for being that anal retentive about a car.

I think just washing the wheels on my car so they don't turn black from brake dust puts me head-and-shoulders above the rest of the population.

You are supposed to polish the bare paint before you wax. Bonus Tip: if you accidentaly drop your rag while washing your car, do not continue to use it. Dropping it causes the cloth to pick up dirt and that dirt will act like sandpaper that will scratch your paint and hence leaving damageing swirl marks.

Considering I am tired, I'll let this one slip, but I will state again for the record I am avidly against using Dawn, cleaner wax should be used, period.

Kerosene may stip or slowly eat away at the paint. Dawn or any other dish soap will stip the wax from the surface of the car, hence leaving no protection from the enviroment. Specialy formulated car wash (such as meguiars) should be used to remove dirt, debris, and bugs.

So let me get this straight...you are advocating using wax to strip off wax?

It contains abrasives that strip the old wax while still leaving a chemical buffer until the car is polished and then waxed. Dawn only strips the old wax leaving the surface unexposed and allows for contaminates to enter the paint surface and after time can easily cause oxidation and rust (it doesn't help that you then seal the particles into the paint with a protectant wax). I have seen this happen many times on old vehicles that I have restored and especially even newer models whose owners come in and cannot understand why they have rust around the edges and linings of their 5 year old car when they wax it "properly", after using dawn. This also happens a lot on chrome. Also unless you are using a heavy abrasive you never want to completely strip the old wax as usually one coat of wax (or with missed parts of sections) does not provide a good coat of protection.
