Car Deck: Mini vs MP3

I wanted to know if anyone would purchase a deck that would be able to play Minidiscs and why or why not? I'm pretty sure that the MP3 ones are really popular right now, and am curious to know if the Minidisc ones are under rated or just lousy. Thanks.

i figured if you are low on budget like me i'd just hook up a Mp3 discman to the cassette deck. buy some fast CDRW's and for under $50 you can have a Mp3 stereo...

minidisc's are ideal for portability, which doesn't matter for a car

minidisc players are smaller than any hard drive-based MP3 player. my sony E55 is smaller than an iPOD...

I can not think of one reason why anyone would invest in minidisc when mp3 is so widely supported and cd/dvd rom so ubiquitous. If you already have a computer with a burner, why invest in yet another format?

No, not if you want good quality. Probably about 40-50 songs on average for me.

Then i'd go with the MP3 player. I have one in my car and I love it.

Interesting this helps a lot, thanks. Now does the type of in dash deck matter much about quality, or do you look for ones with certain features, functions, and overall appeal?

Sure, different ones will have different DACs.

I've got a nice Panasonic MP3/WMA player that is really nice and hasn't given me any problems. I bought it about 6 months ago to replace a Aiwa MP3 Player that crapped out. Mp3 is the way to go...less CD swapping...more music...etc..

I have a Dual (KOSS owned company) MP3 deck. DO NOT BUY ONE. It is a piece of sh!t. The smallest mark on a cd will cause the thing to freak out. and the LCD display went dark within 6 months of buying it. I love having an MP3 player in my car...and it serves its purpose for that...but i'd never buy one of their products again.
