I'm having a bit of dilema (sp?)... I really like the new A4 and TT and am looking on leasing one of them in the very near future (month or so). Question I have mostly regards the TT... I really like this car but I always hear its a "girls" car...

So, that said I'd like to hear what anyone else thinks about this as well as what the opinions are w/ regards to the cars... here's the specifics on what I want...

A4
1.8T (i'm gonna try to get the 3.0 but I dont think I can afford it)
quattro
5-speed

TT
1.8T (180hp)
quattro
5-speed

Anyway, thanks for any advice..

Also I'm thinking about a new Cadillac CTS... they'r a bit expensive w/ the options I want, but I do like them... just thought i'd throw that in there ;)

How tall are you? TT is rather small in that regard.

A4 = Sporty car capable of driving the family around if you so desire

TT = Weekend getaway fun car or hip singles car

I love my new A4, and i'm a hip single guy :p So basically, i love both cars.

Check out audiworld.com for lots of fun info

I think you just need to ask yourself about utility. I've never considered the TT to be a "girlie" car. Further, if I like a car, I'm gonna get it, even if everyone thinks it's a "girlie" car.

I love the TT, but at this point in my life it would be terribly impractical to have a 2-seater, so I'd have to opt for the A4 by default.
If I already had a functional car for every day and all-weather driving, then I'd grab the TT without a second thought.

At least choosing between the A4 and the TT you're in a win-win situation :)

First off... congratulations. You must be well off to have to "toil" over these choices... ;)

I never ever heard the TT being called a Girly car. Maybe a car good for picking up Girls, but that is entireley different.
It's pretty simple realy. You single, or have a cute Girlfriend. Never plan on taking more then one buddy on a trip, get the TT.
You like the option of more people in your car but still look classy, get the A4.

I myself would go for the TT if I had neither a wife, 2 children and the money ;)

I'd personally take the 350Z over the G35 just cause I love the legacy of the Z car... I have always wanted one...

but they are both nice...

oops wrong car thread... :D:Q;)

ehh... nice ;)... made me think there for a second...

I just got off the phone w/ a guy from the dealer, gonna go over there during lunch break and check it out. I'm 6'4'' tall so maybe I need to stick w/ the A4, at least from what I hear of the TT (smaller car). I really want to get the 3.0 v6 in the A4, just have to see how bad the dealer wants to rip me one on it though.

Thanks for the replies thus far, keep em' commin'

I would personally go for the A4. The TT is a nicer looking car IMO but the size (or lack thereof) would be an issue for me...

BTW: Good choices, AUDI's are sweet ass cars :)

Of those 2, I'd go with the A4.

TTs are real cool cars, but you have to remember, they are a sports coupe and not meant for much else.

For the money you're going to spend, I'd look for a '01 S4.

TT's are nice, but I don't think I could forsake the backspace, a trunk, and two extra doors for the booty factor of them.

The S4 is very sleek, has an excellent interior, and goes like stink on sh!t. I know the dealer near me is selling '01 S4 closeouts for $38k.

I, too, am 6'4", and the TT would be far too cramped for me.

Don't feel bad about not being able to spring for the 2.8L - the 1.8T has a large amount of headroom for tuning, and an inexpensive chip upgrade will boost it to the 225 bhp that it produces in the TT. You can restore it to stock before returning it at the end of the lease period.

thanks for the replies guys... vi, I did think about the S4 and I may still want to look into it... i'll talk it over w/ the dealer today.

don_vito, how hard is it to replace the chip on the A4 and is it easy to restore it?

thanks!

Yo,
Audi A4 1.8T Quattro all the way. When you take women out, they'll prefer the A4's extra space. You can't haul your buddies around in an TT.

Talked with some tow truck drivers, they said the same thing: the Audi TT's subframe is weak. It'll bend every time from just trying to tow it via the front wheels.

Good luck,
PCM

The chip is a matter of popping the old one out and slapping the new on in. Doesn't take long at all, just make sure you have someone experienced do it for you.

Note that you shouldn't tell your dealer/salesperson about this as Audi will not honor the warranty on chipped vehicles.

Pretty darn easy actually. APR make some fantastic chips for the 96-01 A4's

With the 2002's, only GIAC has a real production chip out already (and it's not exactly fine tuned yet), but more are soon to follow.

Basically, you just pop a cover in the engine compartment and have at it....some allow a switch to disable to chip so when you go in for warranty work they can't pick up on it...other's require you to physically take out the chip if you don't want the dealer to discover it.....some dealers are cool about chipping, but many are not

Interesting...but if it's got Quattro then you're not supposed to tow it on anything other than a flatbed...since you effectively kill the transmission if you don't

The TT had some rollover issues, as well. At least the earlier models did.

This was not well publicized for obvious reasons but this info comes from a company where I used to work who writes quality control software for manufacturers (mostly automotive).

I want an Audi too. The allroad is schweet. Between the TT & the A4, I'd get the A4, for many of the reasons already listed. 2 seaters aren't too practical. Even my Scirocco is small on the inside.

If all you're going for is looks the TT is a good choice. But if you're the practical yet "want some get-go" kind of guy the A4 is hands down the winner.

Audi TTs are built in Hungary. Cheap crap. Go for the new A4 (a REAL German car...)

Update... went to the dealer and this is what I've got in the driveway @ work...

Silver 2002 A4 3.0 Quattro
fully loaded
automatic (i know i know)
fully loaded (black interior)

It was a demo car (4300 miles) so they cut me a big break... plus I have some nasty negative equity on my trade in (~$5000).

Anyway, let me know what you think.

So you're implying that you're interested in purchasing that exact car?

The silver is classic with Audi's

The 3.0 is a sweet sounding (and driving) engine

The tiptronic tranny is pretty nice as far as auto's go

The only thing that would worry me is the demo car factor..you *do* realize how hard people (such as myself) drive demo cars right?

edit: oh yeah...does it have the sport package and 17" rims??

Hrmm.. from personal experience, chicks really dig the TT :)

I'm not saying I'm looking to get booty with my car, but random people complementing you is not a bad thing :)

And being young, and single allows me the freedom drive an impractical car. I figured there'd only be two times in my life that I could really drive an impractical car. When I'm old, married, and the children have moved out or when I'm young, single, and have no responsibilities. And I'm pretty sure I'd rather be driving the cool impractical car when I'm younger.

And besides, the back seats fold down on the coupe, so Costco runs aren't out of the question.
