do they test rear-impact?
i know they do a frontal impact, at (60mph?) and they do it off set from the centre of the vehicle, and i know they do side impact tests too, and now in Euro NCAP they do pedestrian impacts as well
the need to do well in pedestrian impacts (ie making it a more pleasant experience for the pedestrian) has led to some gawdy design like this http://www.peugeot-city.com/peugeot-images/peugeot-407/peugeot_407_03_340x.jpg
that huge front, is basically a nice soft landing area for pedestrians (relative)
but do they test rear impact?
reason i brought this up is that i seen an horrific accident..... 7-ton lorry driver was playing with his mobile phone when he ploughed into the back of a traffic jam on the M3 motorway a 60mph. the peugeot 206 that he hit got sandwhiched between his truck and the saab 95 aero infront.
im not joking when i say the car was litterally like a suitcase, the rear wheels were pretty much next to the front wheels, the 23 year old woman driver was simply crushed to death
the fire brigade had to basically un-fold/un-scrumple the car to get to her, must be horrible to see, and know you gotta look at it for the next 2 hours while you prise the car apart
they need to make the rears of cars stronger, id rather have horrific whip lash than be dead
