WHOA! $10 nothing is done about the intersection.

I have an intersection like that right down the street from my house. Tons of accidents, guess it will take a death before something is done. 🙁

There should be a public outcry to have a 4 way signal put there. That sign on the side of the road, and the fact that a vehicle crossing the opposite way are 2 huge blind spots.

WHAT?? what are you talking about ?? Are you looking at the same video as I am ??? What 2 hugh blind spots are you talking about ??
The only blind spot I saw was was the car paying too much attention to the reporter and the van that just crossed the road so the car thought it can also cross the road.

Exactly, for all of you city folks there are tens of thousands of intersections like that in rural america. Are you proposing putting 4 way stops at all of them? c'mon people, think.

I live in the burbs and we don't have any uncontrolled intersections with speed limits of 55mph.

The burbs and rural america are two different things. But even so, I bet if you looked around you would find them. I know they have plenty of them here in the burbs of Houston.

I drive to work on stretches of road that are 55 mph, and have several uncontrolled intersections. The big difference between them and the one in the video is the stop signs are closer to the road by several feet. Maybe a signal light isn't the best idea, but locating the stop signs closer to the actual road shpuld be considered.

The news story they were doing was about how dangerous the intersection is.
Whatever the reason, there is obviously something about the intersection that makes accidents more common.

It's drivers that are unable to estimate how fast a vehicle is going towards them...

Now see, that's a suggestion that is plausible and makes common sense. good job.

Anyone notice how the inbred reporter just kept on yapping with his story for the rest of the clip without even saying "SORRY - GOTTA CALL 911" or go over and see if he could help?:disgust:

Yeah it's called IDIOTS who cant drive. No matter what you do, there are still going to be people who just cant drive. People run stoplights and stop signs all the time, a lot of times trying to beat another car....which results in accidents. It's a catch 22 either way you look at it.

People can freaking drive..thats the problem.

If you read the article that was posted above, the reporter did in fact go try to help the drivers of the vehicles shortly after the accident.

Immediately after the accident, Matt and photographer Kevin Rempe, were quick to help the accident victims. Matt finished his report and went to check on the drivers. Kevin called 911 and grabbed a fire extinguisher from our live truck after seeing chemicals from the airbag, which appeared to be smoke.

No, he didn't immediately. On another post that showed the original clip without the replays, he kept gabbing for a good 8-10 seconds before the clip ended instead of dropping his mic. He's a freakin moron.

Looks like the white van prevented the car driver from seeing the truck. The van cut in front of the truck, btw.

actually no.

its a stop sign. he has to wait until all traffic is out of his way. If you watch it closely the car pulls up and slowed down BEFORE the white van drove by. He had time to look over and see if there was a vehicle coming.

When the van got out of his way he took off. obviously not looking for any oncoming traffic and got nailed for it.

This is NOBODY else's fault but the idiot in the car. It is not the the white vans fault for doing something legal UNLIKE the car that failed to yield to traffic.

sheesh.

I don't think it's necessarily the news reporter being the distraction, but the white van finishing his turn and blinding the guy for a second (short attention span this guy, I guess). Not the van's fault either. I've had it happen to me, with my role being the white van's.

I was in the right lane of a 2 lane road with another car on my left side trailing slightly. I complete a right turn into a street and that street's car decides to come out (and attempt a left) as if I were the only car on that 2 lane road and he was clear to go. Bam... they hit the car that was in the left lane. He/she was worried/waiting for my car to finish the turn, they forgot to look for other oncoming cars.

He wasn't holding a mic to begin with. If you watch the video closely, there's no mic in his hand for him to drop. For all we know, he was on his way over to get help while he was finishing up. There's no real way to know for sure, since he's not on the camera once the crash happens (at least not in that clip).
