Car collision: hypothetical situation

I'm curios as to what the policies of car insurance companies say about situations like the one described below. Say i owned a car and had insurance. Say i lent it to a friend or relative who got into an accident. Say that person had no license. What exactly would happen? Would the insurance company cover this, or would one of us have to pay out of their own pocket? Keep in mind that this is simply a hypothetical situation. I'm not planning on doing this 😀

I'm fairly certain that if the person isn't on your insurance (and they won't be since they don't have a license), the insurance company does nothing for you. but hey I could be wrong.

Generally, the insurance goes with the driver. So if I drive your car, and I wreck it, my insurance would pay for it. In this case, you'd have to check if your "Uninsured Motorist" coverage would cover it.

In almost all cases, anyone driving your car is covered under your insurance. If they are a 'regular' driver of the car, you have to have them listed on your policy. Him being unlicensed throws a wrench into the picture, however.

insurance always goes with the car...no matter whos driving, as long as the insured gives permission to drive. now that is not saying a person without a license would be covered because i dont think they would be. at that point, i do not think the insurance co. would cover the loss and YOU the insured would be screwed because then if someone was hurt, they would sue you.

Again, this is not nationwide info...
