Hey guys, I am sure someone has already started a thread with the same topic, but sorry i just needed some help. My family and I had just bought a 2000 camry used with 43k miles on it, now the details of the car don;t matter. But my question is, for you car guys out there, what type of products do you use on your cars, such as for cleaning, waxing, drying, etc. etc. Anything and everything, cuz this car wil be mine, and I want to take good care of it, but I really don;t know how to do it, and what to do, besides checking the oil and stuff. Hell i have never even waxed a car before!!! So what ever you guys do to your cars, I would appriceate it alot if you could just let me know what u guys do. THnaks in advance.

{ps} i don;t have a dig camera, so i can;t get pics

Blue Coral wax for the outside, vacuum and shampoo the inside and then give it a good coat of 3M Scotchgard.

3M Scotchgaurd???? the tape??, u mean on the inside of the car??? Like you do on cloths to get the fuz balls????

wow...so important you need two threads to hold all the info!

Scotchguard is a fabric treatment that helps it resist stains.

Go here - Autopia
You will find everything you could ever possibly want to know about detailing cars there.

I could list dozens of things for you to buy... but these are the basics:
Wash bucket, Car wash, Wash Mitt (Lambs Wool) - NOT A SPONGE!, Clay Bar, Polish, Wax or Sealant (P21S or Zaino are highly recommended), and to dry some high quality microfiber towels.
Properautocare.com is a great place to buy this stuff online. If you prefer to buy from a B&M store you can get decent stuff from Walmart. Except for the MF towels.

Johnson's Baby Shampoo for washing
Zymol for waxing
Armor All for the vinyl surfaces
Lexol for the leather
Wheel Brush for the wheels
Lamb's Wool Mit for washing the body
Chamois for drying

Personally I'd switch to a regular car wash shampoo instead of a people shampoo... might cause problems down the road. Not 100% sure on that though.
Armor All use to be considered one of the worst products you can use on your car by a lot of people... but recently I've seen info that suggests they may have changed their formula recently so it doesn't cause the problems it use to. Personally I use 303 Aerospace Protectant. It has more of a matte (stock) finish to it instead of that insane shine. It's also not greasy like armor all. Others use Lexol Vinylex if they like that higher gloss shine.

My dad and I have been using Johnson and Johnson's baby shampoo to wash cars ever since we read about it in Miata Club Magazine (way back in the 80s). It's gentile, cleans well, and is cheap.

I'm not a big armor all fan, but I've never heard of anything better. I'll try the 303 if I can find it.

It's probably not too bad since it is so gentle... If you've been using it that long then I assume you havn't noticed any problems with it removing wax. I use to use shampoo too years ago before I knew any better. Heh I know some people that wash their car with dawn every time... now that WILL remove all of your wax heh.
303 is definately better than armor all... lasts longer too. You can find it at CMA (properautocare - linked above). If you like the shine of armor all you might want to give the vinylex a try as well.
BTW since you're in NC as well if you order from CMA you'll get your stuff in 2 days. I've ordered from them 3 or 4 times and each time it arrives quickly and very well packaged. No complaints from me. I guess they're kinda like the newegg of carcare. 😉

What do you recommend to remove stains from the carpet? I tried a product called Dri Clean but was wondering if anything cheaper exists.

If you want the ultimate in stain removal use a small carpet cleaning machine with a mixture of 95% carpet cleaner solution and 5% Castrol Super Clean, this will remove all but the most stubborn stains.

(Dried blood and real heavy grease)

Ok, I was hoping to avoid that because of the rental cost. But it would probably do the best job overall. Thanks for the tip on the Castrol SC.

There's no need for a rental, K-Mart sells small portable Bissel Green Machine's that are about $50, they are small, lightwieght and perfect for cleaning automobiles 🙂
